Metaphorically that is! When deciding on wedding colors Sherry wanted hot pink, then one day while she was surfing the web looking to buy things she did not need, she stumbled upon some purple shoes-

and fell in love (not as hard as she fell for George, of course) because every girl needs some purple flats. So we started throwing around this idea of the color purple and it makes purple sense.
George graduated from Northwestern, Sherry works at Northwestern, Northwestern's main color IS purple!
We got our engagment pictures dressed in purple- we started a trend before we even realized it.
So we are now researching purple and ditching the first idea of hot pink. Because the color purple screams beach- yeah right- we are finding the balance between getting married on the beach and incorporating puple into things. At this point flowers are the hardest thing. Purple flowers are easy to find (clarification we are thinking primary purple not lilac), but most deep purple flowers have a traditional formal feel to them. Orchids remind us of the beach, but the purple ones come in a shade of purplish-pink. The good news is that we have time and websites like The Knot and Pinterest exist.
Back to the shoes. So you may be thinking who wears purple shoes on her wedding day? Well there will be no shoe wearing during the ceremony- it's on the beach so we will all be barefoot. That is of course you wish to wear shoes, but then you'll have sand in your shoes. The purple shoes will be a nice pop of color for the reception.
