Wedding Photographer
We are super excited to say that we were able to get Meg Baisden as our wedding photographer! (Yay! Hooray! Oh Boy! Yippee! Hot Digity Dog!)
Check them out-
http://www.megphoto.com/
They are a husband & wife duo- so we get two professional photographers! Meg has the talent and Charles has the brains (but I think they equally have both). Charles teaches a photography class and Meg takes that best pictures ever.
Did you look at their website yet? Her (or his pictures- they website doesn't label which ones are Charles and which are Meg's) gives you an emotional feel of the people in the pictures. It's a good feeling that seems to capture key moment so perfectly.
We took a long time to narrow down our wedding photographer. At first, we were considering flying someone down from Chicago. We then decided to use local photographers as they were more used to taking local scenary and beach weddings. We also looked through a ton of websites for Florida photographers and even spoke to some of them on the phone to get a feel for their style.
After narrowing down our choices for our favorite Florida photographer (Meg Braisden), we emailed them in early October to inquire their availability and they responded back immediately- They were going to be available for our wedding day! No only that, since they had engagements in Panama City Beach on Friday and Sunday of our wedding weekend, they were going to give us a deal on the wedding package. How awesome are they? We think incredibly awesome!
We plan to meet Meg and Charles in late January 2012 when we go down to Florida to check out our wedding venue, cakery, and florist. Their awesomeness score goes even higher in our eyes as they are willing to take a weekend day out of their busy schedule to have meet with us in January. It will be at this time we confess our fears of candid photos (see engagement picture blog for details on candid shots). In the meantime, we are practicing our wedding picture cheesy smiles.
We are so blessed to get Meg & Charles- it worked out so perfectly that we not only got the photographer we really wanted, but they also happen to be familiar with Panama City Beach so we are sure to get great pictures!

Engagement Announcement
We're famous! We made the newspaper for our engagment announcement, photo and all!
http://www.vindy.com/news/2011/nov/22/miss-snyder-mr-chen-plan-spring-wedding/
We submitted an engagement announcement a few weeks back for the Youngstown, OH Vindicator. Since we don't live in Youngstown and Sherry's parents only subscribe on Sundays, we had all of her mom's friends check the paper every day until this little beauty was posted.
Please note- Sherry did not attend the University of Nevada, she went to the University of Nevada Las Vegas. The difference is University of Nevada is in Reno, not Las Vegas (this is just a small formality issue that drives her loco. This error of misrepresentation of her college alma mater is not new. When she worked at Disney, the school on her name tag was University of Nevada as well, which is NOT UNLV!).
Anyways, since all of the other information is correct in the engagement announcement of the paper- names, date and venue, we will forgive them ;)

Engagment Pix
We took engagement pictures in October. While it was fun, it had its awkward moments. The photographer, Laurie Peacock, is very artistic and big on capturing pictures of people being "natural". She is a wonderful photographer, we must say. However, the problem for us was when we tried to be "natural" during the shoot, we would end up laughing. This was the first time we ever took professional pictures that were not in front of a screen (remember those pictures you were forced to do with foam numbers for the year you graduated in high school?) We were not used to having a person with a camera right in front of you and not stare at it and smile. So we ended up with many shots with goofy faces. Aside from that, the pictures are amazing- the lighting was fabulous, we were in sharp focus, and the locations we went to were gorgeous.
We did our engagement pictures at 3 locations- on the Chicago River, in a park by River North, and at Fullerton Beach.
We had about 14 REALLY good pictures from the shoot and another 14 that we were happy with. The rest of them were just OK or we didn't particularly like. Not that these rest of the pictures were bad, but because we had awkward faces or mismatched expressions in them.
We still find it somewhat weird to look at some of our engagement pictures. We are so used to looking at ourselves in pictures where we have a big cheesy grin it's just weird to see yourself in a non-smiley or mid sentence speaking pose. We look at these pictures and are like "Do I really look like that when I'm not smiling?"
We are posting our favorites on this blog, because we paid a pretty penny for them so you can be sure we are gonna use them all we can (or at least until the wedding pictures come in!)
Laurie's website-

Once at the site, go to the engagement tab and scroll down to find George and Sherry (NOTE: the ones posted on her blog are not our favorites. So pay attention to the ones we post on our blog as we like these much better).

Save the Date
We have 174 days (less than 6 months) until the wedding in Florida!
We will be using this site to post information regarding wedding details.
We will be visiting the property in late January and then post more info at that time regarding surrounding hotel options, how far the airport is and the area in general. But we WILL be updating in the meantime so keep checking!
